Disney storytellers share the tale of a freak snowstorm that hit Florida, whereupon the world’s most unique ski resort was built. When Florida’s normal sunny temperatures returned, the snowy ski lodge transformed into a watery wonderland, creating Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park at Walt Disney World® Resort in the process.

Former ski slopes and toboggan runs can now be enjoyed as slushy, downhill waterslides, while the chairlift transports swimmers and sliders instead of skiers. And despite the wintery setting, the water’s always warm at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park.

Besides an imaginative setting, the park offers thrills and relaxation in equal measure. For the former, test your mettle on Summit Plummet and its near-vertical, 120-foot drop. More fast times await on the 90-foot Slush Gusher, the competitive Downhill Double Dipper and a trio of 350-foot slides at Snow Stormers. For the ultimate challenge, head to the top of Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park’s centerpiece, Mount Gushmore, for high-speed action at Runoff Rapids.

When you’re ready to slow down, take a 40-minute tour of the park’s 3,000-foot-long lazy river, Cross Country Creek, or chill out at Melt-Away Bay. And if you’re traveling with children, they’re sure to have a blast at Tike’s Peak and Ski Patrol Training Camp.

It all adds up to one of the world’s “coolest” water parks — literally. See below for more details, and experience Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park for yourself during your next visit to Orlando.

    Chairlift

Hop on to a laid-back chairlift like no other. As you ride up Mount Gushmore, you’ll enjoy panoramic views from under a brightly colored, beach-umbrella canopy. Get ready to ride down watery slopes and rapid-like springs.

Height restrictions: 32 inches (81 cm). Guests under 32 inches (81 cm) will need to take the stairs. Guests with disabilities can take the gondola. Guests 48 inches (122 cm) and under must be accompanied by an adult aged 18 or over.

    Cross Country Creek

Set off on an inner tube and leisurely float down a lazy river in a polar-inspired wonderland. Soak up the sun as you blissfully drift down the river, passing icy polar bear caves, verdant forests and bubbling geysers. Experience a light shower from Mount Gushmore as you traverse through an icy grotto. Cross Country Creek, a 3,000-foot waterway, winds around the entire park with seven landings, making it an effortless way to get to your next adventure.

    Downhill Double Dipper

Unleash your competitive side on side-by-side waterslides, where you can race friends and family at epic speeds. Once the start gate lifts, you’ll rocket through a dark tunnel on an inner tube, then splash downhill for the final plummet across the finish line. Flags mark your course, and your time will be displayed on an overhead digital stop clock, just like in a downhill ski race. Check out the stop clock to find out who’s the winner.

Height restriction: 48 inches (122 cm)

    Melt-Away Bay

Set at the edge of Mount Gushmore, this wave pool invites you to take a dip in the bay and bob in the waves. Swim out to the refreshing waterfall or plop down in a comfy lounge chair and enjoy the beach.

    Runoff Rapids

It’s your choice of three exciting inner-tube waterslides. Pick your adventure and speed down any of the three, propelling yourself down the Mount Gushmore runoff. Want an extra-thrilling ride? Head to the center slide that’s enclosed, making it a dark water adventure.

    Snow Stormers

Coast downhill head-first on a toboggan on one of a trio of snow flumes. Go slalom style as you swish and splash down on a sloshy slope.

    Teamboat Springs

Jump into an inner-tube raft with the whole family. Expect unpredictable fun with rip-roaring rapids and crazy bumps that send it into a tailspin. It’s 1,200 feet of splashy exhilaration.

    Tike’s Peak

A wintery wonderland where little ones can zoom down pint-sized slides or build a dreamy sandcastle.

Height restrictions: 48 inches (122 cm) or shorter

    Ski Patrol Training Camp

Kids and tweens can challenge themselves with first-rate interactive experiences and creative obstacles. Learn what it takes to be a top-notch ski patrol. Challenges include Cool Runners, Thin Ice Training and Fahrenheit Drops, a zip line with a cool final splash.

    Slush Gusher

Icy and snowy mountain runoff makes for a double-dipper downhill thrill ride. Rush down a watery slope as you lie back while the Slush Gusher sends you catapulting down two rolling hills.

Height restrictions: 48 inches (122 cm)
