What to Expect From Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Set against a New Orleans celebration, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure invites your family to join Princess Tiana, Mama Odie and Louis from Disney’s The Princess and the Frog, plus some brand-new friends on a thrilling, whimsical journey. Continuing the events of the animated classic, the experience is brought to life through Disney’s iconic storytelling, dozens of incredibly advanced Audio-Animatronics figures … and a 50-foot drop.
After boarding a cozy boat, you’ll embark on an immersive evening trip through the bayou, where cute critters entertain you with delightfully upbeat, super-catchy New Orleans music. Featuring Zydeco, Rara and Afro-Cuban stylings, the songs include tunes created just for this attraction alongside favorites from the film. (We predict you’ll be singing along to “Special Spice” by your second ride-through.)
While you’re tapping your toes and floating through beautiful Louisiana cypress trees and Spanish moss, watch for familiar faces — starting with Princess Tiana (Anika Noni Rose), Louis (Michael-Leon Wooley) and Mama Odie (Jennifer Lewis), who are all voiced by their original talent. Eudora, Charlotte, Prince Ralphie, Prince Naveen and others also make appearances along with several new characters.
As to the grand, 50-foot finale: While the drop isn’t too intense, smaller kids may find it scary. And even if you manage to avoid getting splashed up till now, you’ll almost certainly get wet here. Plan accordingly.
The ride itself isn’t the only reason you’ll want to visit Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, as your journey starts at Tiana’s Foods. Inside, a cute queue tells the post-movie story of Tiana through the work of New Orleans artist Sharika Madhi, Louisiana artist Malaika Favorite, and third-generation master blacksmith Darryl Reeves and his apprentice, Karina Roca.
As a result, there is lots to see even before you enter the bayou … and smell, with the mouthwatering scent of oven-warmed beignets wafting through the queue. Speaking of food, keep an eye out for some of Tiana’s family recipes!
One last disclosure: Much to my wife’s dismay, this reporter never saw The Princess and the Frog before riding Tiana’s Bayou Adventure. Nevertheless, I found it to be a fantastically fun addition to Magic Kingdom Park — one that you’ll want to experience for yourself. Make plans now to book your own bayou boat ride at Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando.
