This Is Salem

Presented via Zoom in Spanish with English subtitles from Caracas, Venezuela - ONLINE and Projected at Lobos Coffee Roasters
Produced by Teatro de la Penumbra @teatrodelapenumbra

This is Salem is the deconstruction of the classic play The Crucible by Arthur Miller, in an original proposal by the Venezuelan director and playwright Andreína Polidor, with the production of Teatro de la Penumbra from Caracas, Venezuela, and presented for the first time in the United States exclusively for this edition of the FLAE. According to Polidor: "The decomposition of some themes taken from Miller's piece is the premise for composing This is Salem. Topics such as power, education as a system of control, indoctrination, witchcraft, totalitarianism, persecution, and destruction are taken to the maximum of their meaning until the meaning of these words is deconfigured, achieving multiple meanings, which allow trips in time, political and social analogies of the present with metaphors of the past." With impressive staging and bodywork, the actors Bethania Yanez, Douglas Suniaga, José Alberto Briceño, Marisela Montiel, and Fernando Garantón bring this online presentation to life, accompanied by a live talk-back with the cast and crew at the end.

THIS IS AN EXCLUSIVE PRESENTATION OF THE FOURTH EDITION OF THE LATIN AMERICAN PERFORMING ARTS FESTIVAL PRODUCED BY OPEN SCENE. TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE WHOLE EVENT, PLEASE VISIT WWW.OPENSCENE.ORG
