Outer space is a constant reminder of humankind's unanswered questions; it takes a special kind of person to pursue answering those questions by boldly going where no man (or woman) has gone before. The new Heroes & Legends, featuring the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame® presented by Boeing at the Kennedy Space Center, honors the men and women who have dedicated their lives to uncovering the mysteries of the universe we live in. Through the use of cutting-edge technology, the new exhibits take guests on an out-of-this-world journey that immerses them in an interactive storytelling experience they won't soon forget.
As guests enter the Kennedy Space Center, the first thing they'll encounter is a stunning, 360-degreee discovery bay area. Here, guests will immerse themselves in the expansive universe of all kinds of heroes. For example, The What is a Hero? exhibit explores the definition of a hero in our society and highlights the pioneer years of space exploration.
The Through the Eyes of a Hero exhibit is a 4D, multi-sensory theater experience that transports guests into the life of an astronaut. Guests will experience all the excitement, fear and awe of the first crewed space program missions.
A Hero Is… is an interactive exhibit inspired by the brave, history-making astronauts that have all shared the nine key attributes of every hero: inspiration, curiosity, passion, tenacity, discipline, confidence, courage, principle and selflessness. Their stories are enhanced with memorabilia from the astronaut or the space program.
The Hall of Fame features 93 of the most heroic astronauts. The entrance of the exhibit displays a life-sized statue of Alan Shepard, the first American to fly into space and the only Mercury astronaut to step foot on the moon. Guests will be able to capture a memento of their journey: a special photo opportunity that allows the guests to pose with the Mercury astronauts.
Through these various exhibits, guests will leave and enter a new world of space, heroes and timeless adventure.
