BASE Camp Children's Cancer Foundation is increasing its impact in the community thanks to Visit Orlando's Magical Dining Month, an annual program that donates one dollar from every meal to nonprofits in Central Florida.
Founded in 1982, BASE Camp provides year-round support for children and families going through the ups and down of cancer and other hematological illnesses. BASE Camp -- alongside Freedom Ride, also a beneficiary and locally-based nonprofit -- received a record Magical Dining donation in December at Visit Orlando's Annual Meeting. Since the donation, BASE Camp has awarded two Second Wishes to children with a recurrence of cancer (pictured above: BASE Camp team presenting Caleb with a brand new laptop) and has several more wishes planned in the coming months.
"This is the largest donation we've ever received," said Terri Jones, president and founder of BASE Camp. "It will make a huge difference in the number of families that we can support."
The proceeds from Magical Dining have also helped BASE Camp enhance its Parent's Night Out program and provide an additional "kid's choice" lunch every week at Florida Hospital for Children, Arnold Palmer Hospital, and Nemours Children's Hospital. In addition, BASE Camp recently opened its doors Monday through Friday as a drop-in day center. Children and families that have downtime between treatments now have a comfortable and fun place to wait.
Visit Orlando is proud to support BASE Camp and many other local nonprofits making a difference in our community.
