What Is Sustainable Fashion?

Sustainable fashion considers the full lifecycle of the product, including the design, sourcing and production processes. To determine if a company or product is sustainable, they must look at the water usage, lifecycle, hazardous chemicals, waste production and the effect they have on agriculture. Here are some prime examples of sustainable fashion waiting for you at The Mall at Millenia:

Athleta

Athleta says that 60% of its products are currently made with sustainable materials, including organic cotton, recycled polyester and Tencel. Their hope this year is to increase this number to 80%. Athleta is B Corp Certified, which means it meets strict social and environmental standards. What’s more, they produce their garments in an ethical factory that is Fair Trade Certified.

Billabong

The beloved surfer shop is making waves within the sustainability movement by helping save the oceans. All of their latest boardshorts are made from plastic bottles, and Billabong has also launched an eco-capsule that has bathing suits, shorts, sweaters, beach blankets and more. All of the items within that line are made from fibers that are certified forest friendly.

Everything But Water

Next time you’re in need of a new swimsuit, opt for a style that also helps save the planet. Take this coral MaxSwim bikini made with recycled fabric (that’s equivalent to five water bottles). MaxSwim is exclusive to Everything But Water and in addition to being eco-friendly, the line is designed to flatter 25 different bra sizes, from 30C to 38G. The swim boutique also carries other sustainable staples like bags and cover-ups, and the company is dedicated to hosting beach clean-ups nationwide among other charitable initiatives.

Lush

Over the past few years, there’s been a shift in the beauty industry to go green. Lush, the beloved bath and body brand, has always been ahead of the curve thanks to their fresh, homemade products. One major way they make a difference is through their minimalist approach to packaging. Many of their products skip plastic altogether, like their shampoo bars that equal two to three bottles of liquid shampoo, and their hot-oil treatment that comes on a wooden stick. They’re also known for their Charity Pot body lotion that donates 100% of proceeds to various grassroot groups.
