Vote for Your Favorite Animal co-promotion with Frontier - Ella

Ella, the Florida Black Bear (Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens)

This 7-year-old, 260-pound Florida black bear was born in the wild, but she and a sibling were illegally removed from the state as cubs and were found living in a home with humans. As they had become accustomed to humans, the cubs were deemed unfit to be returned to the wild — but the Central Florida Zoo was happy to provide a home for them at the request of wildlife officials. Ella can be adored at the zoo’s Florida Black Bear Habitat and Bear Awareness Exhibit.

Located in Sanford, approximately 35 minutes north of Orlando’s main tourism districts, Central Florida Zoo & Botanical Gardens is home to more than 500 animals, including an Insect Zoo, Reptile House, and a children’s zoo with animals that you can feed and pet. There’s lots more to enjoy, too, including 23 acres of native gardens, a splash playground and zip-line fun on ZOOm Air Aerial Adventures.

Vote for Your Favorite Animal co-promotion with Frontier - Larry

Larry, the Alligator (Gatorland)

Larry had been living in the wild at The Villages retirement community in Central Florida, where he was so popular with the residents that he even had his own Facebook page. Unfortunately, people were illegally feeding him, which could have led to a dangerous situation. Normally, alligators are euthanized under such circumstances, but Gatorland stepped in and Larry now resides in the park’s main lake … where he reportedly canoodles with several girlfriends and spends his days sunning on the grassy banks!

Encompassing 110 acres close to International Drive, Gatorland boasts thousands of alligators and crocodiles, as well as bobcats, Florida panthers, a petting zoo and more, plus their world-famous reptilian shows, all included with regular admission. It also offers several add-on experiences, including the Screamin’ Gator Zip Line, the Stompin’ Gator Off-Road Adventure and the Gatorland Express train, making it easy to build a full day of fun at Gatorland.

Vote for Your Favorite Animal co-promotion with Frontier - Ted

Ted, the Loggerhead Turtle (SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium)

Ted’s name has a unique story: He was collected as a hatchling by the National Marine Fisheries Service and became one of the first turtles to test the Turtle Excluder Device (TED)! TEDs are escape hatches in fishing nets that allow turtles to escape if they are accidentally trapped. Sea turtles are an endangered species, which is why spreading awareness of Ted’s story is so vital. SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium is proud of Ted for helping to protect sea turtles across the United States!

One of many can’t-miss attractions at ICON Park® on International Drive, SEA LIFE Orlando Aquarium invites you to dive deep beneath the waves and closer than ever before to the wonders of the world’s oceans. Explore their 360-degree ocean tunnel and come face-to-fin with sharks, stingrays, sea turtles and more, and take advantage of fun talks, animal feeds, special events and a children’s play area. There’s something for everyone at SEA LIFE!

Vote for Your Favorite Animal co-promotion with Frontier - Flurry

Flurry, the Albino Alligator (Wild Florida)

Given that there are only about 100 in the U.S., albino alligators are already pretty rare. But Flurry and his siblings upped the ante by also being the only albino gators ever hatched at a facility open to the public! Their parents, Blizzard and Snowflake — also albinos — had spent years trying to generate offspring, and in 2019 finally produced a large clutch of eggs that led to the birth of Flurry and three siblings. By sharing Flurry’s story, Wild Florida aims to convert people’s fear of alligators into awe, respect and adoration for one of nature’s most incredible animals.

Just 45 minutes south of Orlando’s main tourism districts, Wild Florida features airboat rides on Central Florida’s gorgeous waterways and protected swamps, exciting Gator Park tours, and even a Drive-Thru Safari. In short, you can ride, walk or drive through the adventure of your choice! All told, you can see more than 200 native and exotic animals with your own eyes every time you visit Wild Florida.
