On Mar. 23, The Great LEGO Race will debut at LEGOLAND Florida Resort, marking the first virtual reality (VR) roller coaster geared just for kids. Here's what you can expect from Orlando's latest attraction — plus a preview of other exciting features coming to LEGOLAND later this year!

In addition to pioneering a kid-specific, VR roller coaster, The Great LEGO Race marks the first-ever integration of the world-famous LEGO brand and minifigure characters with VR technology. Attractions Magazine reporter Banks Lee, who previewed the ride last year, praised it for having "great visuals on par with the LEGO movies."

Located in the theme park's LEGO Technic area, The Great LEGO Race features VR headsets which, while not required to ride the attraction, will make kids believe they're blasting their way through a world made of LEGO bricks. After strapping on a headset, riders will travel on the ground and through the air in a wacky race against a pharaoh, a pirate, a surfer and a wizard, complete with LEGO-built vehicles. Examples of the latter include a rocket-powered windsurfing rig and a canopied litter carried by mummies. Any way you slice it, kids are in for an incredible experience — assuming they meet the height requirement of at least 42 inches.

Later in 2018, the all-new Funnel Cake Factory will open just steps from The Great LEGO Race. Serving as a complement to its neighbor, this addition will look like a pit stop made from LEGO bricks. Instead of changing tires and oil, though, it will serve made-to-order funnel cakes with a wide range of toppings, including fresh fruit, powdered sugar and soft-serve ice cream. The perfect reward for successfully completing the race!

On May 4 — aka Star Wars Day — the all-new LEGO Star Wars: The Force Awakens MINILAND Model Display is scheduled to debut at LEGOLAND Florida's LEGO Star Wars MINILAND. Based on the blockbuster seventh movie in the main Star Wars saga, the display will use thousands of LEGO bricks to depict key scenes featuring Rey, Finn, Poe, Kylo Ren and BB-8. It will join existing displays that re-create fan-favorite moments from the franchise's first six movies.
