Nik Wallenda Poses on The Orlando Eye 544x350

Arriving into Orlando's tourism corridor visitors are now welcomed by a new, larger-than-life icon - The Orlando Eye at I-Drive 360. It's the tallest observation wheel on the East Coast of the United States and today a new world record was set with a death-defying feat by Nik Wallenda.

The high flying attraction stands at 400 ft. (122 cm) tall and towers over the Central Florida landscape. As crowds watched from the ground and live on national television, Wallenda stepped out of one of the 30 air-conditioned capsules and walked, untethered, along the outer part of the structure at its highest point.

Following in the footsteps of his over 200 year family legacy, Wallenda has performed record breaking and record setting performances all over the world and today he returned to his home state for this task at The Orlando Eye.

He faced a series of first time challenges including walking without the use of a balancing pole. In speaking with Visit Orlando, Wallenda shared concerns over moisture on the structure, high winds and the fact that the wheel would be moving during his walk.

Rising to the challenge, Wallenda faced these issues head-on and accomplished his goal of walking the wheel for 5 minutes and therefore setting a new world record in seemingly effortless style. His closing act was a ride down to the ground on the roof of a capsule.

Today's performance in Orlando is a dream come true for Wallenda. He shared with Visit Orlando that he regularly visits the area with his family. He and his family enjoy all there is to do in the area including all the recent expansions in Orlando's theme parks and along International Drive.
