(L-R) Chefs Julie and James Petrakis, Henry Salgado, Hari Pulapaka
Orlando's never-ending quest to please our guests has resulted in big kudos for the area's culinary industry. Four chefs from around Orlando have been named semifinalists in the 2014 James Beard Awards - the most out of any other city in Florida.
The Orlando semifinalists are:
Chef Norman Van Aken of Norman's at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando
The James Beard Foundation, the culinary industry's premier authority, made their semifinalist announcement at Orlando's East End Market on February 19 - the first time the announcement was made at a live event.
Honoring Orlando's previously nominated chefs, a benefit dinner was held the night before at Winter Park's The Alfond Inn. The gastronomically advanced menu showcased the best in Orlando's culinary creativity and chef collaboration.
Chefs Kathleen Blake, The Rusty Spoon and Kevin Fonzo, K Restaurant
The region's year-round farming and proximity to the state's abundant fresh fish and seafood sources provide big benefits for local chefs who are showing our millions of annual visitors that Orlando is serious about food.
Chef Brandon McGlamery of Luma on Park
