Part of Visit Orlando's Holly Jolly Holidays 2013
Whether you've been naughty, like the Grinch, nice or somewhere in-between, Holidays at Universal Orlando Resort (#UniversalHolidays) puts glitz and glamour into your yuletide cheer. Included in regular park admission, you can enjoy this two-park (Universal Studios Florida and Islands of Adventure) celebration from now through January 4.
At Universal Studios Florida, experience the thrills of the breathtaking Macy's Holiday Parade balloons and floats that most of us only get to see on TV every Thanksgiving. And don't forget to look for the one and only Santa Claus for a special surprise at the end of the parade!
It's holiday fun with a bit of snarky antics at Grinchmas. The magic of Suess Landing, at Islands of Adventure, comes alive as it's transformed into a wintery wonderland for this Whoville Jubilation that will make even the biggest cynic's heart grow three sizes.
And on select dates, music fans can enjoy the holiday classics performed by the biggest selling Christmas music artist of all time - Mannheim Steamroller.
Here are Visit Orlando's helpful holiday hints that will make your Holidays at Universal Orlando Resort experience the best it can be:
Tip: Although there are up to eight shows in a day, get in line extra early for the 30 minute Grinchmas show so you can get the best seat possible at Islands of Adventure. Have your camera ready, because in this show you're allowed to take pictures and video! Just make sure to turn off your flash. If you are into photography and have a tri-pod, bring it with you to get the perfect shot. (Your friends on Facebook will be green with envy).
Tip: Before you hit the 12th annual Macy's Holiday Parade, stroll through Universal Studios' and feast your eyes on all the dazzling decorations. There are a number of holiday-themed giant balloons the kids will love in select locations of the park. From the fat orange cat, Garfield, to the loveable blue Muppet, Grover from Sesame Street, you'll need to take a step back to fit the larger-than-life balloons into the frame of your camera.
Tip: Grab a seat on the sidewalk by the five-story Christmas tree, this is one of the best spots to get the first look at all of the floats, bands and balloons in the Macy's Holiday Parade. Once you hear the holiday music swell, you'll know the parade is about to begin. Then when you see the big man himself, Santa Claus, get your video camera ready: This is when he lights the giant, decked out tree!
Tip: Get your pens and autograph books ready in your downtime, because you never know what characters you'll see in the middle of all the action. Smile and say "REINDEER!" to capture another memorable moment.
Tip: Following the tree lighting ceremony with Santa Claus at the Macy's Holiday Parade, make your way to the Music Plaza stage at Universal Studios. Find a comfortable spot in the grass under the stars so you don't have stand in the back. Then sit back, relax and enjoy the majestic sounds of Christmas with the world-renowned Mannheim Steamroller.
Tip: Enjoy the newest addition to the Macy's Holiday Parade line-up, Happy Hippo - a giant purple character based on a classic Macy's Thanksgiving Day balloon from decades ago. Keep an eye out for her special show featuring the classic holiday song "I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas" about an hour before the parade.
Extra Fun Fact: Legend has it that long ago the larger-than-life balloons at the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade were stitched with address tags. Following the parade, the balloons were released into the sky, seemingly lost forever. People were encouraged to find the balloon and return it for a monetary reward. How cool would it be if they still did that?
