Visit Orlando is now recruiting for a full-time Consumer Content Writer. The Consumer Content Writer is responsible to research, write and edit content that represents the No. 1 tourism destination in the U.S. directly to consumers for leisure and meetings travel, including on both digital and printed platforms.

MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  1. Create short-form and long-form editorial and marketing copy on the following platforms:
    • Blogs
    • Press releases
    • Consumer Websites
    • Articles
    • E-Newsletters
    • Consumer emails
    • Leisure visitor Guides, travel guides
    • Meeting planner guides
    • Meeting advertorials
    • Social media posts as needed
  2. Ensure accuracy in all communication and consistency of message across all delivery platforms
  3. Analyze and apply data so that digital communications result in improved natural search engine optimization, increased reach and improved performance metrics.
  4. Performs other accountabilities and projects as assigned.

 

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

  • Write clear, compelling short-form and long-form copy, incorporating knowledge of latest digital/SEO practices.
  • Research and develop new stories for the destination as assigned, creating a pool of content around entertainment, vacation, dining, accommodations, meetings and convention angles.
  • Edit, proofread and improve written communications for the organization to ensure proper grammar, punctuation, usage, consistency and style.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders in PR, social media, marketing, digital, meetings sales, and publishing teams to execute content that supports their respective strategic plans.
  • Work with the Director of Content to manage and execute the organization's master editorial calendar, identifying opportunities for cross-over messaging that assists multiple departments.
  • Collaborate with designers and freelance writers as needed for additional projects.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or Public Relations. Minimum of 7 years work experience in a fast-paced, consumer writing environment, juggling multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Extensive writing experience with excellent knowledge of grammar, AP Style and ability to present a compelling idea or concept in a quick snapshot. . Experience writing for both digital and print communication channels. Experience writing content for meeting industry a plus.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to synthesize a wide variety of information into clear, concise content.
  • Demonstrated creativity in writing for digital and social media, including examples of work.
  • Demonstrated ability to research and write long-form consumer content. Including examples of work.
  • Extensive knowledge of AP Style and impressive ability to edit documents accordingly.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills among a broad range of community and internal stakeholders
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects with a short turnaround time
  • Experience supervising or working with creative contractors, including public relations, video, graphic design, print writers.


TECHNICAL SKILLS:
Strong Internet and computer skills. In-depth knowledge and understanding of writing for digital media, including best practices in SEO. Experience writing for social media platforms, especially blogs, Facebook and Twitter. Working knowledge of HTML, blogging software and Content Management Systems a plus.
Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to speak effectively before groups, customers or employees of the organization. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Creative writing skills. Excellent editing and proofing skills. High attention to detail. Strong organizational skills

 

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
